American Locomotive Company.

The American Locomotive Company was incorporated in 1901, the result of the merger of the Schenectady Locomotive Engine Manufactory with seven small companies. In 1955 it became Alco Products, Inc. and was acquired in 1964 by the Worthington Corporation. In addition to steam and diesel engines and generators, the American Locomotive Company also manufactured high quality steel and military tanks, with unsuccessful ventures in automobile manufacture (1905-1913) and the production of nuclear energy (1954-1962). Collection contains advertising and publicity, correspondence, financial records (annual reports, ledgers, etc.), technical drawings and technical manuals, maps, news clippings, personnel records, photographs, sketches and drawings, and more.

Baldwin Piano Company.Albright, James M.

Incorporated in 1898, the D.H. Baldwin Company manufactured grand, spinet, and upright pianos. Known as Baldwin Piano Company, 1954-1963. Collection contains business correspondence (1895-1930); administrative records, including ledgers, account books, and sales books of the company and its subsidiaries (1902-1954).

E. E. Hilliard and Company.

Records of a Connecticut textile firm, including material on its branch operations, Charter Oak Company and Eagle Mill Company; correspondence and letter books (1843-1905); financial records, including bills and receipts, cash books, checkbooks, and time sheets (1837-1939); legal papers, including incorporation papers, 1893; references to a strike, 1934; and ledgers (1857-1937).

A. E. Nettleton Company.

Papers of the shoe manufacturer in Syracuse, N.Y.; established 1879. Collection contains financial records including corporate tax returns (1922-1930) and auditors' reports (1919-1930); records of the Mutual Benefits Association (pension plan), including minutes of directors and pension commissioners; and the in-house publication, The Nettleton Association News (1911-1961).

Abrams, Frank W. (Frank Whittemore), 1889-1976

Papers of the American executive. Abrams graduated from Syracuse University (Engineering) in 1912, shortly thereafter joined Standard Oil of New Jersey where he served as Director (1940) and Chairman of the Board (1946-1954). Papers include correspondence (1953-1961); a transcript of recorded reminiscences of Abrams by the Columbia University Oral History Project Office; photographs; and published materials, including articles by and about Abrams, clippings, and printed speeches.

Egbert, Perry T.

American engineer, worked for American Locomotive Company (ALCo). Correspondence, technical reports and drawings, cost information, etc., most of which relates to ALCo and its production of diesel engines.
