Cartes de visite of the 19th century including albumen prints, platinotypes, tintypes and several lithographs. Included are works by American, European, and Asian photographers: Abdullah Freres, E. & H.T. Anthony, Brady National Photographic Art Gallery, J.H. Bufford, Alexander Gardner, London Stereoscopic and Photographic Company, William E. Marshall, Mora, A. Sachtler, and Napoleon Sarony. Subjects include celebrities, family portraits, indigenous peoples, soldiers, and travel photos from America, Europe, China, Japan, and the Malay Pennisula.

Cook, Albert M.

Papers of the Union soldier (1843-1872). Served as a clerk in the 123rd New York Volunteers during the Civil War, participated in Gettysburg and Atlanta Campaigns. Worked as a surveyor following war. Diaries (1862-1865); family correspondence (1862-1878); and memorabilia, including military certificates, Cook's company's muster-out roll, photographs, and newspapers.

Cook, Howard Norton, 1901-1980

Correspondence (1928-1972); artwork (original watercolors and reproductions); writings by Cook (articles, essays, reminiscences about the Taos community, statements and notes on Cook's artistic philosophy); and memorabilia, including financial and legal documents, and printed material (articles, reviews, clippings about Cook, exhibition announcements, invitations, and catalogs). Correspondents include artists Ernest L. Blumenschein, Victor Candell, Jean Charlot, Fred Conway, Russell Cowles, Andrew Dasburg, Lamar Dodd, Ernest Fiene, Lez Haas, John Haley, Ward Lockwood, Henry Lee McFee, B.J.O. Nordfeldt, Arthur Osver, Rudolph Ruzicka, Millard Sheets, and Carl Zigrosser. Other correspondents include Margaret Anderson, Joseph Blumenthal, John Hodgdon Bradley, J. Frank Dobie, and Lenore Marshall. Extensive correspondence relating to Cook's mural work includes that of the Mayo Clinic, the U. S. Post Office, the U.S. Public Buildings Administration, and the U.S. Treasury Department.

Crane, Stephen, 1871-1900.

Papers of the American novelist, journalist, poet, war correspondent. Collection includes correspondence, writings, and memorabilia of the American author and his wife, Cora Crane, and includes the research materials from a number of literary scholars and private collectors. The Stephen Crane Collection Photographs and the Lillian Gilkes Papers unrelated to Crane are inventoried and housed separately. In addition, many published Crane works and reference materials are located in Special Collections.

Papers of the American bookseller, brother of Raymond Carr. Collection pertains largely to theater investments of Carr's brother, Raymond, and includes correspondence, photographs of film and stage actors, and various printed theatrical memorabilia such as clippings, playbills, programs, and posters.

Charters, Alexander N. Charters, Margaret A., 1925-2019.

Correspondence, memoranda, minutes, newsletters, photographs, reports, speeches, writings and memorabilia of the internationally-recognized American adult educator. Personal material includes family and friends as well as organizations with which Dr. Charters was involved (e.g., Park Central Presbyterian Church). Professional material pertains to Dr. Charters' work with a wide range of issues and organizations in the field of adult and continuing education, including the Adult Education Association (AEA/USA), Association for Continuing Higher Education (ACHE), Center for the Study of Liberal Education for Adults (CSLEA), Coalition of Adult Education Organizations (CAEO), Commission of Professors of Adult Education (CPAE), International Conference on Adult Education (ICAE), International Congress of University Adult Education (ICUAE), Middle States Association (MSA), National University Extension Association (NUEA) and its successor organizations, and UNESCO. There is also extensive material relating to Dr. Charters' longstanding and central roles in adult education at Syracuse University as professor, department chair, and dean.

Chaffee, Edmund Bigelow,1887-1936.

Papers of the American clergyman, educator. Chaffee was a Presbyterian minister in New York City. Correspondence, letters to magazines to which Chaffee contributed, notes, sermons, scrapbooks, diaries, and published material. Sermons (1914-1936) include such topics as religion, specifically Christianity, and its relationship to politics, labor, technocracy, war, pacifism, communism, and socialism.

Cunningham, Ben, 1904-1975

Spanning 1904 to 1969, the Ben Cunningham Papers comprises biographical material, correspondence, artwork, writings, and memorabilia of the American painter and art educator (1904-1975). The collection, which is heavily annotated by Cunningham, illuminates a professional career which encompassed WPA Federal Art Project mural work as well as the op art movement of the mid to late 1960s. Some of the items in the collection have been restricted to prevent their further deterioration. Photocopies of these embrittled items have been made available for researcher use.

Carter, Manfred Amos.

Papers of the American clergyman, author, poet. Biographical and family material, correspondence, memorabilia, including cartoons, church bulletins, financial documents, original drawings, photographs, school and seminary papers, and scrapbooks. Writings include an inventory of prose works, a reviews scrapbook, articles, editorials, fiction, lyrics, and manuscript poems arranged chronologically in notebooks, dated pre-1940-1961. Also included are a large collection of chronologically arranged sermons as well as children's sermons. There are also a number of essays arranged in titled notebooks.

Clark, Melville

Papers of the American musician, inventor of the Clark Irish harp; Syracuse businessman, owner of Clark Music Co., founded by his father. Correspondence (1908-1950); calendars (1905-1953), heavily annotated; subject files; scrapbooks and photographs. Also, material relating to the Central New York Music Festival and the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra.
