Flanagan, James H., Jr.

James Flanagan was a New York politician and businessman; he was active in the local Democratic Party, served as Supervisor for the town of Vienna and as Treasurer for Oneida County, and was Assistant Superintendent of Public Works for the Middle Division of the New York State Canals. The collection contains photographs (mostly personal in nature), correspondence, maps, and financial and legal documents relating primarily to his work with the town of Vienna and with the Canal system.

Sulzer, William, 1863-1941.

Papers of the New York State governor (1913), congressional representative (1895-1913), lawyer. Collection includes mostly outgoing letters, a few of which (Eugene Brewster, Everett Wheeler) refer to Tammany Hall and the impeachment proceedings against the then-Governor. Also a group of 11 incoming letters is in connection with a dinner given by Sulzer in honor of Perry Belmont.

Dix, John A. (John Adams), 1798-1879.

Papers of the Army officer; U.S. Senator (1845-1849); U.S. Secretary of the Treasury. During the Civil War, President Lincoln commissioned Dix a major-general, and ordered him to take charge of the Alexandria and Arlington Department, then reassigned him to the Department of Maryland. Dix later served as commander of the Department of the East. After the Civil War, Dix was named Minister to France (1866-1869), and following his return to the U.S., the life-long Democrat became the Republican Party nominee and the successful candidate for the Governorship of New York State (1873-1875). Includes more than 130 items of outgoing correspondence, more than half of which were written to Edwards Pierrepont between 1861 and 1877. Subjects include the Civil War, Reconstruction, New York State and national politics, and French politics and foreign relations preceding the outbreak of the Franco-Prussian War.

Collection of 56 pamphlets issued by the Socialist Labor Party; topics include unemployment, low wages, capitalism, fascism, war/peace, strikes and anti-semitism. Also, several city and state party platforms.

National Plastics Center & Museum.

Collection is an artificial compilation of pieces donated to the National Plastics Center & Museum. It includes sales material such as brochures and sales receipts, a copy photograph of the founder Earl Tupper with his signature, and a book of poetry published by Tupperware.

McKinley, William Brown, 1856-1926.

Papers of the American legislator. McKinley was the Republican U.S. Representative(1905-1913; 1915-1920) and Senator (1920-1926) from Illinois. Collection includes correspondence, financial records, pamphlets, petitions, photographs, press releases, scrapbooks, and speeches, mostly relating to McKinley's roll as director of William H. Taft's renomination campaign prior to the Presidential election of 1912.
