Papers of the American author, scholar, educator.Professor of English, Syracuse University, 1948-1985; born 1916. Collection includes correspondence, incoming and outgoing (1958-1992); book manuscripts. Notable correspondents include C.L. Barber, Stuart Gerry Brown, Lawrence Dembo, Byron Farwell, Robert Hudspeth, James Laughlin, Denise Levertov, Robert Emmet Long, Joyce Carol Oates, Tanure Ojaide, Roy Harvey Pearce, Robert Phillips, John Taggart, Brom Weber, Bette S. Weidman, Robert Weimann, and William Carlos Williams.

Hallenbeck, Wilbur C., 1892-1986

Papers consist primarily of correspondence, planning materials and proposals related to the "University Without Walls" program at Roger Williams College in Rhode Island. There are also some reports, pamphlets, books and dissertations.

Thompson, Willard

Willard Thompson was an American professor of journalism and Dean of the General Extension Division and Summer Session (1969-1970), later Dean of the Summer School at the University of Minnesota. Papers include correspondence, meeting minutes and agendas, programs, lists and resolutions. The papers reflect Thompson’s role as Public Relations Committee Chairman for the Galaxy Conference (1969) and the subsequent Wingspread Conference (1976). Noteworthy among the correspondents because of his role in both conferences is Alexander N. Charters.

Dowling, William D.

Papers include published materials, speeches, memoranda, agendas, notes, correspondence, outlines and lists. There are some papers from Dowling’s work on the Ad Hoc Committee on Administration of the Subcommittee for Adult Students at Ohio State University. Many of the papers reflect his interest in adult basic education and vocational and technical training for adults.

Langner, William R.

William Langner worked for the Department of Education's Division of Adult Education and Literacy for many years. He was active in raising awareness of education for the disabled (Langner himself was a paraplegic from the age of 18 due to a car accident). Collection includes correspondence (both personal and professional), writings, memorabilia, and large amounts of printed material (papers, reports, handbooks, manuals, etc).concerning adult education.
